English maps, various

Authors

Description
Over the last week my department has suffered a considerable loss of maps due to theft. The amount of maps stolen number around 150 and range between early 17th century copper engravings to late 19th century lithographs. The maps stolen were all of the English counties of Norfolk, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire, as well as relevant cities in those counties such as Newcastle, Nottingham and Norwich.

Due to th
e map subjects targeted it does suggest to us that the person/s responsible may me be opportunists, and most certainly petty criminals. The effect of this being that they are likely to contact a dealer much like ourselves to sell the maps.
