The work is from the Durning-Lawrence Library, is bound in calf with four raised bands on the spine and the title "Stubbe on Lord Bacon" tooled in gilt, and bears the following marks:
the bookplate of Philip Lord Hardwicke, Baron of Hardwicke in the County of Gloucester;
a University of London bookplate on the front pastedown;
the letters "D S" stamped in mauve on the front free endpaper, with a manuscript number after the "D" and another manuscript initial after the "S", and an accession number stamped above them.

An antiquarian book was stolen on 16/17th February 2009 from the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9. Ireland.

The book is ?The Botanic Garden? by Erasmus Darwin. It is a leather-bound volume containing a poem in two parts, by Erasmus Darwin. The book was a thick quarto size, 1st Edition, published in 1791 by J. Johnson, London.

The theft has been reported to the Gardai (Irish police) and is being investi
gated. We are very keen to track down this book. An image of the title page of the book can be sent on request.

A group of 14 uncoloured etchings of vases, urns and architectural details by Jean Laurent Legeay, all circa 1765, with narrow margins, each plate with a narrow strip of paper attached to the lower margin.
Most have old ink notes on the reverse.

Recent stiff vellum, original flying endpapers preserved, edges gilt. Little foxing on title and on the broad margins of some leaves, but a fine, large copy.
