Goldschmidts (1819-1887) legendariske tidsskrift »Corsaren« begyndte at udkomme i 1840. Her parodieres samtiden hule romantiske stil særdeles vittigt. 92200. GOOS, PIETER. Otherweise in good condition. 8.000,- * A decorative map of Russia from Finland in the west to China in the east. The eastcoast of Russia is much more accurate than the earlier map from c. 1710. Nürnberg 1761. 59x49,5 cm. Svag fals. Noget beskåret i nedre margin uden tekst- og billedtab. Nederste margin let brunplettet. Ellers velholdt eksemplar. ** Handcoloured engraved map of Iceland made by the successors to J.C. Homann. The map here is dated 1761. Edge weak. Some browning in lower margin. In fine condition. 99554. HOMANN, JOHANN BAPTIST. Engraved plan and view of Nürnberg/Nuremberg. Nürnberg c. 1720. 57x49 cm. Paper size: 60x51,5 cm. Beautiful contemporary colouring. Both lower corners of paper torn, not affecting neither plate mark nor motive. Otherwise in fine condition. 10.000,- * Outstanding (due to the meticolous coloring) plan of one of the most important German cities, renowned - at least before the Nazi heyday - for its high cultural level. Nuremberg was the home town of Johann Homann himself, and he gives a most attractive impression of the old city. While Homann maps tend to be in quite stereotype colours, this piece has been coloured with a fine sense of the details. The oblong panoramic view shows the medieval skyline of Albrecht Dürer's home town in all its splendour. Among the allegorical figures surrounding the the view is a putto with cartographic tools and a globe - probably an allusion to Homann and his business. 98221. HOMANN, JOHANN BAPTIST. Provinciarum Persicarum Kilaniæ nempe Chiruaniæ Dagestaniæ. Handcoloured engraved map og the Caspian Sea with Armenia, Georgia and parts of Russia. Nürnberg 1728. 59,5x50 cm. Margins narrow. Nürnberg ca. 1720. 50,5x58,5 cm. Papirmål: 53x62 cm. Samtidig kolorering. Flot allegorisk kartouche med det norske våben. Meget velbevaret. ** Very decorative map of Norway, with the northernmost counties shown in slightly reduced scale, but showing the province of Bahus that was given over to Sweden by a peace treaty in 1658 as a part of Norway. 99781. HOMANN, JOHANN BAPTIST. Beautiful handcoloured engraved map of St. Petersbourg. Nürnberg c.1730. 60x51 cm. Margins cut, else fine condition. 12.000,- * A very spectacular and decorative handcoloured map of St. Petersbourg, Russia. The map is nearly an exactly copy of the Covnens' and Mortier's map from c. 1720. The only difference is that the portrait of Peter the Great is here depicted in profile as a Roman emperor. The allegorical cartouche shows the grandeur of the city with symbols of trade, wisdom, science, literature, music, and travel. In the middle a profile-portrait of Peter the Great engraved in a medallion. The cartouche not only underlines the splendour of the city and it's European connections, but also the position of Peter the Great as emperor of Russia! Several curiosities like the Hermitage, the big Public Garden, made after French royal gardens, and the fortress are only some of the depicted areas. No surprise that the city has fascinated and drawned many writers, artists, and scholars. 99544. HOMANN'S HEIRS. Accurater Grundris und Prospect der Weltberuhmten Hollandischen Haupt und Handels-Stadt Amsterdam. Engraved plan and view of Amsterdam. Nürnberg c.1730. Paper size: 58x50 cm. Contemporary handcolouring. Black and white view of the city seen from the river Amstel, surrounded by allegorical representatives of all four continents known by then. Margins cropped in the left, right and upper side; the lower side has a 5 mm margin. Near fine condition. 10.000,- * Decorative plan and view of Amsterdam, showing the city in all its 17th century glory. The colouring marks the difference between the medieval part of the city and the results of the enlargement in the early 17th century with the concentric channel system. 89123. HONDIUS, H., JANSSONIUS, JOHANNES. ** Very decorative general map of the Nordic region, showing Denmark, Norway and Sweden plus parts of Northern Germany and the Western part of Russia before the wars in the mid-17th century which turned huge Danish and Norwegian territories over to Sweden. Slight browning of paper and a few brownish spots in lower left corner; otherwise a nice and attractive copy. 61424. JAILLOT, HUBERT. Included: Two handcoloured folio pages with index for the map. 16.000,- * Magnificent map of Central and Southeastern Europe as parts of the Turkish realm. Greece with Crete fills the center of the map; to the right is Asia minor with the Aegean islands and Constantinople; to the left is Italy with Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica. ** Magnificent map of Denmark from an atlas dedicated to Le Grand Dauphin, the eldest son of Louis XVI, and based on Nicolas Sanson's work from the mid-17th century. I vandet ses omhyggeligt tegnede skibe. Norges hovedstad hedder her Oslo, selv om Christian IV i 1620rne lod byen skifte navn til Christiania. ** Very decorative map of the central part of Norway. JYSKE LOV. Den Rette Judske Lowbog / Nu Nylige offuerseet / Corrigerit oc Dansken forbedrit / Aar M.D.LXXXX. Prentet i den Kongelige Stad Kiøbenhaffn / Aff Matz Vingaardt, 1590. Titelbladet er en vellignende faksimile. Genindbundet i gammelt bind uden rygtitel. Enkelte blæktilskrifter i gammel hånd. 49081. "First Edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle An Exceptionally Tall And Wide Margined Copy [SCHEDEL, Hartmann. Liber chronicarum. Nuremberg: Anton Koberger for Sebald Schreyer and Sebastian Kammermeister, 1493]. First edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle, preceding the German language edition by just over five months. Large folio (18 1/2 x 12 3/8 inches; 462 = x 313 mm.). 325 (of 328) leaves ([20], CCLXVI, [5], CCLXVII-CCXCIX, [1] leaves). Lacking the blank leaf following the De Sarmacia regione and the two final blank leaves. This copy contains the three numbered leaves CCLVIIII, CCLX, and CCLXI, blank except for headlines, and the five additional unnumbered leaves containing the description of Poland, De Sarmacia regione, and the laudatory verse on Maximilian. Gothic type, sixty-four lines plus headline. Table and parts of the text in double columns. Woodcut title and 1,809 woodcut illustrations, of which 1,164 are repeats, from 645 blocks (Sydney Cockerell=B9s count in Some German Woodcuts of the Fifteenth Century (Hammersmith: Kelmscott Press, 1897), pp.35-36) by Michael Wolgemut, Wilhelm Pleydenwurff, and their workshop, including (supposedly) the young Albrecht D=FCrer, including double-page maps of the world and of Europe. The portrait of Pope Joan (=B3Johannes Septimus,=B2 verso of leaf CLXIX), usually missing, is present and unmutilated. The vers= o of leaf CCLVII and the recto of leaf CCLVIII are in the later, corrected state, with capital A=B9s supplied.=20 Eighteenth-century full mottled calf. Spine ruled and decorated in gilt in compartments, brown morocco gilt lettering label, edges sprinkled red. Joints cracking but cords still strong. Housed in a brown cloth clamshell case. This copy unrubricated; papal tiaras are highlighted throughout with early silver paint (some now tarnished). Marginal notations in several early hands, including a long note regarding the founding of Rome on fo. LVII. In the Contents and elsewhere the name of the Pope, "papa," is generally struc=k through. Early description tipped to front pastedown. Interior generally clean and crisp. Some scattered minor staining; a few very minor worm holes=, a few small closed tears; one tear to f. CXXXVI, showing old tape residue and affecting some text; map of Europe with some light staining and creasing. Leaves LVII, LVIII, CLXIX, CCLXXVIIII very slightly shorter and possibly supplied from another copy. Overall, a fine, very tall, and fresh copy. The most extensively illustrated book of the fifteenth century. The artists= Michael Wolgemut, the well-known teacher of Albrecht D=FCrer, and his stepson=Wilhelm Pleydenwurff, are mentioned in the colophon. The woodcuts comprise religious subjects from the Old and New Testament, classical and medieval history, and a large series of city views (including Augsburg, Bamberg, Basel, Cologne, Nuremberg, Rome, Ulm, Vienna), as well as a double-page map of Europe and a large Ptolemaic world map. The text is a year-by-year account of notable events in world history from the creation down to the year of publication, including the invention of printing at Mainz, the exploration of the Atlantic and of Africa, as well a=s references to the game of chess, and to medical curiosities, including what is believed to be the first depiction of Siamese twins. The passage relatin= g to the alleged discovery of America in 1483 by Martin Behaim and Jacobus Canus appears on the verso of leaf CCXC. BMC II, p. 437. Fairfax Murray, German, 394. Goff S-307.
