Here is the catalog listing of the two books that were stolen from the galss case in our shop. They were discovered on January 11th: "BAUM, L[yman] Frank. The WonderfulWizard of Oz. With Pictures by W.W. Denslow. Chicago: George M. Hill, 1900. 8vo, 261pp. Pictorial endpapers (fixed sheets only); 24 tipped?in color plates as well as a multitude of two color illustrations throughout the text. Spine ends and corners lightly worn, hinges expertly mended, spine sunned, covers very slightly soiled, lower joint and head and tail expertly mended and strengthened, pages a bit yellowed at edges, else an unusually clean, tight copy with the front cover remarkably sharp and bright. Neat ink inscription on front flyleaf to ?Dorothy Deering from Auntie.? In a clamshell case with green morocco spine. First edition, second state (having no box around advts. on p.a); first line of p.14 reads ?low wail of?; fourth line from bottom of p.81 reads ?pieces?; first line of p.[227] reads ?While The Woodman?; and the colophon is set in 13 lines with no box), third binding state (publisher's imprint being stamped at base of spine in red, serifed type with the ?o? in ?Co.? inside the ?C?). The plates opposite p.34 and p.92 have been corrected and the verso of the title page has the copyright notice printed on it. A little girl from Kansas is transported ?over the rainbow? where she makes several remarkable friends, encounters a humbug wizard, a perfectly hateful witch and explores that most colorful of fairylands, the Land of Oz. The book that started it all. Hanff/Greene I.2, binding state C; PPP p.111; Greene/Hearne 21. $9,500 DUNSANY, Lord. Time and the Gods. With Ten Illustrations in Photogravure by S.H. Sime. London & NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1922. 8vo, [x] 232pp. Marbled endpapers; 10 photogravure plates with captioned tissue?guards. Spine ends lightly rubbed, lower corners gently bumped, some light foxing, else a clean, tight copy in the original pictorial d.w. (larger than book ? as always, and so creased at edges). Rare. Signed by the author, Lord Dunsany, on the preface, and by the artist, Sidney Sime, on each of the 10 plates. First edition thus, being a deluxe issue, limited to 250 numbered copies signed by Dunsany underneath the preface and by Sime on each and every plate. 20 fantastic tales of the Elder Gods by master storyteller, Lord Dunsany, phenomenally illustrated by Sidney Sime. Sime's illustrations have a power and life all their own. The other two signed, limited editions done by Dunsany and Sime (The King of Elfland's Daughter [1924] and The Chronicles of Rodriguez [1922]) have only a frontispiece signed by Sime, making this the most lavishly illustrated (and certainly the most extensively signed) of the Dunsany/Sime collaborations. $1,850"

Goldschmidts (1819-1887) legendariske tidsskrift »Corsaren« begyndte at udkomme i 1840. Her parodieres samtiden hule romantiske stil særdeles vittigt. 92200. GOOS, PIETER. De Zee Custen van Ruslant, Laplant, Finmarcken, Spitsbergen en Nova Zemla. Engraved chart of the Barents Sea showing the Northern coast of Norway, Finland and Russia along with Svalbard/Spitsberg and Novaya Zemlya. Both lower corners of paper torn, not affecting neither plate mark nor motive. Otherwise in fine condition. 10.000,- * Outstanding (due to the meticolous coloring) plan of one of the most important German cities, renowned - at least before the Nazi heyday - for its high cultural level. Nuremberg was the home town of Johann Homann himself, and he gives a most attractive impression of the old city. While Homann maps tend to be in quite stereotype colours, this piece has been coloured with a fine sense of the details. The oblong panoramic view shows the medieval skyline of Albrecht Dürer's home town in all its splendour. Among the allegorical figures surrounding the the view is a putto with cartographic tools and a globe - probably an allusion to Homann and his business. 98221. HOMANN, JOHANN BAPTIST. Provinciarum Persicarum Kilaniæ nempe Chiruaniæ Dagestaniæ. Handcoloured engraved map og the Caspian Sea with Armenia, Georgia and parts of Russia. Nürnberg 1728. 59,5x50 cm. Margins narrow. Meget velbevaret. ** Very decorative map of Norway, with the northernmost counties shown in slightly reduced scale, but showing the province of Bahus that was given over to Sweden by a peace treaty in 1658 as a part of Norway. 99781. Beautiful handcoloured engraved map of St. Petersbourg. Nürnberg c.1730. 60x51 cm. Margins cut, else fine condition. 12.000,- * A very spectacular and decorative handcoloured map of St. Petersbourg, Russia. The map is nearly an exactly copy of the Covnens' and Mortier's map from c. 1720. The only difference is that the portrait of Peter the Great is here depicted in profile as a Roman emperor. The allegorical cartouche shows the grandeur of the city with symbols of trade, wisdom, science, literature, music, and travel. In the middle a profile-portrait of Peter the Great engraved in a medallion. The cartouche not only underlines the splendour of the city and it's European connections, but also the position of Peter the Great as emperor of Russia! Several curiosities like the Hermitage, the big Public Garden, made after French royal gardens, and the fortress are only some of the depicted areas. No surprise that the city has fascinated and drawned many writers, artists, and scholars. 99544. HOMANN'S HEIRS. Margins cropped in the left, right and upper side; the lower side has a 5 mm margin. Near fine condition. 10.000,- * Decorative plan and view of Amsterdam, showing the city in all its 17th century glory. The colouring marks the difference between the medieval part of the city and the results of the enlargement in the early 17th century with the concentric channel system. 89123. Thesaurus 727. Bibl. Dan. II, 585-86. Fiske 83. Skougaard III,142. Bibl.Norv. III,3668. Worm's major work - a major work in all antiquarian literature of the seventeenth century - is this book about the Danish runic monuments and their topographical locations. the individual monuments are commented on and reproduced in pewter or woodcuts, usually from an original drawn by Worm's assistent Jon Skonvig. Chr. IV and Europe 1509. Houghton, Da. Litt., 21. C.A. Reitzels Forlag, Kjöbenhavn. 1846. 4°. [2]+82+[1] sider + 15 litograferede tavler i sort/hvid. 1.200,- * Oldtidsmindeforskeren J.J.A. WORSAAE, J.J.A. Runamo og Braavallaslaget. Et Bidrag til archæologisk Kritik. Med fem lithograferede Tavler. Paa Forfatterens Forlag. I Commission hos Universitetsboghandler C.A. Reitzel, København 1844. 39 sider. 4°. årh. uden at kunde tyde indskriften. ****more listed, see "Ancher" or "Suetter" within author field

A copy of Isaac Newton's Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy published in London in 1687 during the philosopher's lifetime has been stolen from the Russian National Library in Saint Petersburg, the Interfax news agency reported on Sunday. The loss of the book was reported by a library employee, Interfax quoted police as saying without providing further details. Newton's Principia (1686), demonstrating the conservation of energy and applying the rules of gravity to the motion of natural objects, is one of the founding documents of modern science.
